The Songwa Estate is part of the Rift Valley Coffee Estate (www.riftvalley-zanzibar.com), which is located in the mountain range of the Mbeya district, about 900 km southwest of Tanzania’s capital, Dar es Salaam. Songwa is about 15 km from the Utengule Coffee Lodge.   Other Estates (Utengule, Itimba, Tegemeo and Punguluma) and small villages lie on the mainly dirt road running from the hotel to Songwa, partly along the Munvwa river, which is normally calm and shallow, but during the rain season is quite full with water and sometimes valuable top soil.
